November 26, 1949 was a day of celebration for the Indians for that was the day the Indian Constitution was approved and adopted.

To mark this historical day, now declared as Constitution Day in India, the students of Class VIII, IX and X participated in a one hour session titled, We the People.  This interactive session, prepared and conducted by our History teacher, Mrs. Misha Kamath, included a PowerPoint presentation on the Preamble.

The principles of secularism, freedom, justice and equality that are the essence of our Constitution were then presented to the children through a short video presentation. This was followed by a brief interaction with students wherein they brought out the importance of assuming responsibility towards securing every individual’s rights. After all, as quoted by Albert Einstein, “The strength of the Constitution lies entirely in the determination of each citizen to defend it. Only if every single citizen feels duty bound to do his share in this defense are the constitutional rights secure.”

The need for overcoming our differences and working together as one nation was reinforced by way of ‘Ek Anek’, a simple animated film with a powerful message.

The session ended with a few words from our Principal, Sr. Blanche Rodrigues, who stressed on the importance of taking initiatives.
